4 Reasons Fad Diets Don't Work

Natural Medical. Many dieters at some time or another will try fad diets because fad diets promise overnight results. Lose ten pounds in three days. There are countless diets that claim you can lose a significant amount of weight in an incredibly short period of time. The problem with this type of weight loss is that 95% of the time your weight loss will be temporary. Some fad diets may not be crash diets with outrageous claims but they are hyped diet plans that may be fashionable for a short time and unfortunately make a lot of money for whoever created the diet selling a dream with no foundation to people who want and need to lose weight. The best diets have been and will always be good nutrition plans which will help you lose weight while maintaining your health. Why Fad Diets Don't Work 1. Diets that promise you easy and very fast weight loss sometimes revolved around eating more of one food type to the exclusion of others. These diets do not allow for the nutritional needs you would get with a balanced diet. So after a few weeks on the fad diet, not only have you spent your time on a diet that almost guarantees you will gain the weight back, but you might pick up a few nutritional deficiencies in the interim. 2. Fad diets can be very boring and extremely restrictive. If you are not enjoying your meals, that alone can kick in the cravings that will have you sailing off to the nearest pizza or pastry shop. Ultimately, you could even feel that it was your fault you didn't lose the weight, when the diet was a plan that was not going to work. 3. It can be safely stated that the vast majority of fad diets completely ignore any health related guidelines, such as guidelines of the American Heart Association and similar health institutions. The fad diet peddlers may tell you that the diet is only to be followed for a short time. The inherent problem with that scenario is you most likely will not reach your weight goal in the allotted time, which is in effect a setup for failure. 4. Fast weight loss diets are really just a temporary fix and in the long run will not help you to make the permanent changes to your eating habits long term. Changes in your eating habits are the only way you will remain at your optimum weight once you reach it. Fad diets are all about binge cycles for fast weight loss and just as fast, a return of the weight you lost. And this doesn't do much for your self-image. No matter what fad diets claim, you can be confident that these diets will not help you long term. The best way you can sustain weight loss is to follow a diet that takes your nutritional requirements into consideration, allowing for the inclusion of healthy foods and one that doesn't promise overnight weight loss.
